Datadog is building the world's leading platform for engineers to understand and scale their systems, applications, and teams. The company processes trillions of data points per day, providing always-on alerting, metrics visualization, logs, and application tracing for tens of thousands of companies globally. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will work on critical infrastructure and backend systems that power Datadog's observability platform. Your responsibilities will include solving scaling bottlenecks in high-traffic services, designing architecture to handle massive data volumes, deploying new features to production with progressive rollouts using feature flags, investigating and fixing production issues, and collaborating with your team to prioritize the most impactful projects. You will be expected to demonstrate expertise in designing AI backend systems with awareness of quality, cost, and latency tradeoffs. The role emphasizes using AI coding tools effectively in day-to-day workflows and building, validating, and refining AI-generated output. Required qualifications include 6+ years of software engineering experience, significant proficiency in one or more programming languages, strong architectural thinking for high-scale systems, and a BS/MS/PhD in a scientific field or equivalent professional experience. You should value code simplicity and performance, and be excited about working in a fast-growing, engineer-respecting startup environment. Bonus experience includes working with distributed systems like Redis, Cassandra, and Kafka, building data pipelines, strong statistical background, and expertise in Go, C, or Python. The company is particularly interested in candidates eager to leverage AI tools to enhance coding practices and contribute to building AI-enabled products.
