BuildOps is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to help build and scale product experiences and systems for commercial contractors. The role spans full-stack development—frontend applications, backend services, APIs, and integrations—that power high-impact workflows for customers managing service and project operations.
You will own meaningful technical problems end-to-end, from design through implementation, rollout, monitoring, and long-term maintenance. Key responsibilities include designing and building high-quality product features across frontend and backend; partnering with product managers, designers, and engineers to translate ambiguous problems into clear technical plans; writing clean, maintainable, well-tested code with a bias toward simplicity and reliability; and building user-facing experiences and supporting APIs that work across client, service, and data boundaries.
You'll also design systems with observability and reliability in mind—including metrics, dashboards, alerting, and health checks—to help the team detect and resolve issues quickly. The role involves improving performance, scalability, and resilience; proactively identifying technical risks and cross-team dependencies; contributing to design reviews and architecture decisions; and mentoring less-experienced engineers through code review and technical guidance. You'll help strengthen engineering culture by sharing knowledge and improving standards in a collaborative, high-accountability environment. The company values thoughtful use of AI tools across development, debugging, and workflow acceleration while maintaining strong engineering judgment.
Required qualifications: 5+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production systems at scale; strong fundamentals in full-stack development (frontend and backend); experience building reliable APIs, services, and user-facing applications in modern production environments; solid understanding of databases and data modeling; experience with modern web application patterns; ability to own projects with meaningful ambiguity and make good technical decisions with incomplete information; demonstrated cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder alignment; strong debugging and problem-solving skills; and clear written and verbal communication.
