Beacon Biosignals is transforming precision medicine for the brain through at-home EEG platforms and digital diagnostics. The company serves life sciences partners in clinical development and operates a diagnostics business delivering reimbursable assessments for sleep and CNS disorders. The Datastore team sits at the heart of Beacon's platform, defining the foundational data model and serving as the centralized repository and API for brain data from clinical studies. This Senior Software Engineer role focuses on designing and scaling backend systems for data infrastructure, including PostgreSQL data models, Kafka-driven event pipelines, and a GraphQL API enabling scientific and clinical data use. Key responsibilities include: - Leading design and integration of new services and components for data and event processing - Owning pipelines that deliver dataset snapshots into the data warehouse - Collaborating with platform and application teams to implement APIs unlocking new workflows - Writing and tuning SQL queries, reasoning about schema design, indexes, and query behavior - Drafting RFCs to lead complex feature discovery and technical design phases - Maintaining high standards for data integrity, design soundness, and system maintainability - Improving operational robustness through documentation, tools, and dashboards Required experience: 5+ years backend development, including 2+ years on data platforms and backend infrastructure; strong PostgreSQL and SQL proficiency; hands-on data streaming/event processing (Kafka or equivalent); Python or Julia; containerized deployment and Kubernetes; GraphQL and TypeScript/JavaScript; excellent async communication skills. Beacon maintains office hubs in Boston, New York, and Paris but this role is fully remote within the US, supported by robust asynchronous work practices.
