Amplitude is a leading AI analytics platform serving over 4,700 customers including Atlassian, Burger King, NBCUniversal, and Square. The infrastructure team builds and operates backend systems handling more than 1 trillion events per month, working on real-time and batch ingestion, identity resolution, data connectors, privacy/compliance, and operational reliability. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will take on complex infrastructure challenges: designing for extreme throughput, optimizing for millisecond latencies, and building resilient systems with near-zero downtime. You'll work closely with Product and partner engineering teams to shape the roadmap and translate customer needs into reliable, well-architected systems. The primary tech stack includes Java, Python, Kafka, Temporal, DynamoDB, Amazon S3, Snowflake, Kubernetes, and Terraform. Beyond your own delivery, you'll serve as a technical anchor for the team: leading design discussions, mentoring engineers, and raising engineering standards. Key responsibilities include taking infrastructure projects from ideation to production, designing and building highly reliable backend services that scale, optimizing performance and cost of data infrastructure, collaborating across Product/Design/Engineering teams, leading engineering discussions and advocating for best practices, driving design and code reviews, and mentoring engineers. Required qualifications: B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science or related technical field; 5+ years software engineering experience with 2+ years in Java; strong foundation in programming, algorithms, and software design; passion for backend infrastructure and solving challenging problems; experience with distributed systems and large-scale backend services. Preferred: experience leading/mentoring engineers, stream processing/message queues/data pipelines (Kafka), Kubernetes or Terraform infrastructure-as-code. Amplitude offers competitive compensation, excellent medical/dental/vision insurance (100% employer-paid on select plans), 401(k) matching up to $2,000 annually, flexible time off, paid holidays, and stipends for wellness, commuter transit, and learning/development.
