You will join a small, high-impact team building Alpaca's algo trading platform, architecting and implementing core infrastructure that powers millions of brokerage accounts. This is a full-stack engineering role requiring you to wear many hats: designing distributed systems, optimizing for low latency and high throughput, implementing order management and risk systems, and making critical architectural decisions that shape the platform's future.
You must bring deep experience building trading or exchange systems—OMS, EMS, market-making platforms, or algorithmic trading infrastructure. You'll write substantial code across the stack, from CPU-level hardware optimization and concurrency control to high-level service architecture and data modeling. The role demands expertise in low-latency systems, distributed systems design, databases, messaging queues, and scalability patterns.
Required skills include proficiency in C/C++, Go, Rust, Java, Python, or similar languages; deep knowledge of algorithms, distributed systems, and high-availability architecture; and hands-on experience with Order Management Systems (OMS) and Risk Management Systems (RMS). Nice-to-haves include algo trading experience, FIX protocol knowledge, financial market domain expertise, observability/profiling skills, and familiarity with GCP, Docker, and Kubernetes.
