Salary: USD 196,000 - 220,500 / annual
Discord is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its Application Security team, responsible for protecting hundreds of millions of users' accounts and communications. This is a full-stack, user-facing security role focused on strengthening session security and authentication across Discord's platform.
Key responsibilities include designing and implementing security solutions that make the secure path the easy path for users; leading full-stack work on session security and authentication; improving and maintaining security-critical authentication services; partnering with product teams to drive adoption of stronger authentication mechanisms; identifying and designing solutions for emerging account security threats; researching and implementing new security capabilities; and building self-service, automated security controls and tools.
You will own the correctness and security of critical authentication services, reason about complex system security even with unfamiliar components, and provide clear guidance to engineers on secure design and implementation.
Required qualifications: 5+ years securing production applications; 3+ years programming in general-purpose languages (Python, Go, Java, Rust); hands-on experience building and shipping production software with security features; hands-on experience with authentication and account security (WebAuthn, passkeys, FIDO2, MFA, session management); experience leading security projects cross-functionally; experience building or hardening client applications (desktop or native mobile); experience in cloud environments (Google Cloud preferred but others acceptable).
Bonus: systems programming language experience (C, C++); production systems development and debugging; familiarity with platform-specific vulnerabilities across Discord's supported platforms.
