As a Senior Software Engineer focused on Android, you will own the design, development, and deployment of applications and plugins that integrate Ditto's data synchronization capabilities into defense and tactical environments. You'll architect performant Android applications and services optimized for disconnected, intermittent, and low-bandwidth (DIL) operational conditions.
Key responsibilities include: driving technical strategy and delivery for Android-native integrations; designing end-to-end integration architecture between Ditto's platform and the TAK (Tactical Awareness Kit) ecosystem; serving as a senior technical escalation point for complex issues in live operational environments; mentoring other engineers; and partnering with product leadership to define the edge integration roadmap based on field constraints and operational realities.
You will set technical direction, establish patterns and standards for the team, and act as a crucial bridge translating complex technical realities and user workflows into actionable requirements for product engineers and leadership.
Required: 8+ years of software engineering experience with production applications at scale; 4+ years of mobile development with deep Android SDK, Kotlin/Java expertise; strong integration design skills and API contract definition; demonstrated technical leadership and mentoring track record; adaptability and problem-solving mindset; strong written and verbal communication.
Nice-to-haves: CRDT or local-first architecture experience; cross-platform mobile development; ATAK/TAK ecosystem and plugin development experience; tactical networking familiarity; embedded database experience (SQLite, Realm); tactical edge deployment experience.
