Salary: USD 210,000 - 250,000 / annual
Astronomer is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Airflow Infrastructure team, part of Astro, the company's flagship cloud platform. You'll build the critical backend services that connect the open-source Apache Airflow ecosystem to enterprise-grade, massively scalable cloud infrastructure, directly influencing how global organizations orchestrate data pipelines at scale.
In this role, you will engineer high-quality, maintainable, and well-tested backend services using Python or Golang. You'll partner cross-functionally with other engineers, product teams, customer reliability support, and leadership to define system evolution and achieve business goals. Key responsibilities include optimizing performance, reliability, and scalability of existing services; investigating and prototyping improvements to user experience; creating and maintaining technical documentation; conducting code reviews with constructive feedback; and participating in on-call rotation to troubleshoot and resolve incidents.
You bring 5+ years of experience building and delivering SaaS products, with strong proficiency in Python or Golang and hands-on Kubernetes experience. You have solid understanding of RESTful APIs and distributed systems, comfort with testing frameworks like pytest, and strong written and verbal communication skills. You demonstrate a passion for reliability and operational excellence, with proven ability to scope work, coordinate cross-functionally, and follow software development best practices including code reviews, testing, CI/CD, version control, and automation. You're proactive, adaptable to rapid development pace, and focused on ownership and accountability.
Bonus experience includes familiarity with Apache Airflow. The role is hybrid with at least 3 days per week in the NYC office.
