TRM Labs is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its Intel team, working at the intersection of intelligence analysts, backend systems, and AI. The role focuses on building AI-powered products and infrastructure that enable investigators to trace illicit activity, build cases, and disrupt crime at scale.
You will embed directly with intelligence analysts to understand their workflows and translate requirements into technical solutions. The mandate is to make TRM's intelligence collection meaningfully better with AI, moving beyond narrow automations to build sticky, real products that advance the mission.
Key responsibilities include:
- Partner with semi-technical analysts to identify highest-impact, scalable opportunities for AI-powered solutions
- Design, build, and own AI-powered internal applications end-to-end: backend services, APIs, data storage, infrastructure, and user-facing interfaces
- Develop custom agentic solutions using state-of-the-art models (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini) to augment intelligence workflows
- Own projects from technical design through architecture, scoping, delivery, iteration, and ongoing support
- Build reliable, scalable systems that analysts depend on daily
- Continuously evaluate impact and iterate based on real outcomes
Required qualifications:
- 6+ years full-stack software engineering experience building scalable web applications, services, and APIs
- Strong product sense: ability to identify highest-impact, most scalable solutions and ship them as durable products people actually use
- Proficiency in Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript with strong backend and systems engineering skills
- Experience building backend systems with various datastores (Postgres/pgvector, Pinecone, Redis) and designing APIs
- Demonstrated curiosity and hands-on experience with AI tools, modern AI models, agentic IDEs, or AI-enabled workflows
- High degree of ownership and ability to operate independently in ambiguous problem spaces
- Strong communication skills and ability to build trust with semi-technical stakeholders
The team operates on weekly sprints with a timezone mix of EST and PST (minimum 6 hours overlap with PST, 8am-2pm). On-call rotation responsibilities for internal tools support.
