Salary: USD 200,000 - 220,000 / annual
TRM Labs is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join its Intel team, working at the intersection of intelligence analysts, backend systems, and AI. The role focuses on building AI-powered products and infrastructure that help investigators trace illicit activity and disrupt crime at scale.
You'll embed directly with intelligence analysts to understand their workflows and translate those into technical solutions. The mandate is to make TRM's intelligence collection meaningfully better with AI—shipping sticky, real products that advance the mission, not narrow automations that pick at minor annoyances.
Key responsibilities include:
- Partnering with semi-technical analysts to identify highest-leverage opportunities for AI-powered improvements
- Designing, building, and owning AI-powered internal applications end-to-end: backend services, APIs, data storage, infrastructure, and user-facing interfaces
- Developing custom agentic solutions using state-of-the-art models (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini) to augment intelligence workflows
- Owning projects end-to-end: technical design, architecture, scoping, delivery, iteration, and support
- Building reliable, scalable systems that analysts depend on daily
- Continuously evaluating impact and iterating based on real outcomes
Required qualifications:
- 6+ years full-stack software engineering experience building scalable web applications, services, and APIs
- Strong product sense: ability to zoom out, identify highest-impact solutions, and ship products people actually use
- Proficiency in Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript with strong backend and systems engineering skills
- Experience building backend systems with datastores (Postgres/pgvector, Pinecone, Redis) and designing APIs
- Demonstrated curiosity and hands-on experience with AI tools, agentic IDEs, or building AI-enabled workflows
- High degree of ownership and ability to operate independently in ambiguous problem spaces
- Strong communication skills and ability to build trust with semi-technical stakeholders
The team operates on weekly sprints with a mix of EST and PST timezones (minimum 6 hours overlap, 8am–2pm PST). On-call rotation is specific to internal tools. The culture emphasizes psychological safety, trust-based relationships, accountability, collaboration, and impact.
