Salary: USD 196,000 - 220,500 / annual
Discord is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its Ads team, responsible for designing, building, and maintaining innovative advertising products and infrastructure. The role spans backend to frontend development, with a focus on revolutionary ad formats like Quests that create value for game developers, players, and Discord simultaneously.
Key responsibilities include architecting scalable systems that enable rapid iteration while maintaining high quality standards, collaborating across Revenue Infrastructure, Core Tech, Machine Learning, and Data Science teams, and owning projects end-to-end from requirements refinement through launch and maintenance. You'll act as a strategic partner with engineering, product, and cross-functional leadership to design and scale digital advertising features that drive revenue growth and enhance user engagement.
The role emphasizes strong ownership and autonomy—you'll solve problems completely rather than shipping quick solutions, operate independently while looping in stakeholders on critical decisions, and introduce coding and operational best practices to the team. Mentorship is valued; you'll help fellow engineers with system architecture, API design, data modeling, and technical tradeoffs.
Required qualifications include 5+ years of software engineering experience, a sharp eye for product impact, a sense of ownership and follow-through, a growth mindset that treats mistakes as learning opportunities, and a passion for mentoring peers. Bonus skills include expertise in Python, Rust, TypeScript, React, or React Native; experience in the advertising space; familiarity with experimentation and analysis; open-source contributions; or passion for the Discord platform.
