Datadog is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the Private Action Runner (PAR) team within the Action Platform group. PAR is a core execution layer that enables Datadog products and AI agents to securely run actions inside customer infrastructure with controls for authentication, permissions, auditing, and safe execution.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role with immediate responsibility for a team of 3 engineers, with a clear path to transition into a formal Engineering Manager 1 position as the team grows. You will own architecture, implementation, reliability, and cross-team collaboration as PAR is integrated across Datadog's product suite.
Key responsibilities include:
- Solving scaling bottlenecks in critical services
- Deploying new features to production with progressive rollouts using feature flags
- Investigating and resolving production issues in services owned by your team
- Designing scalable architecture for increased traffic
- Planning and prioritizing the team's most important projects
- Mentoring and leading a small team of engineers
You bring significant experience in one or more programming languages, with a strong focus on code simplicity and performance. You can design architecture to solve problems at high scale and have a BS/MS/PhD in a scientific field or equivalent professional experience. You're excited about leveraging AI tools to enhance coding and problem-solving, with demonstrated ability to use AI coding tools in day-to-day workflows. You have experience designing AI backend systems with awareness of quality, cost, and latency tradeoffs.
Bonus qualifications include previous experience mentoring or leading small teams as a tech lead, and motivation to push the boundaries of how AI can improve software engineering practices.
