Salary: USD 200,000 - 220,000 / annual
BitGo is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design and evolve the core ledger systems that power its digital asset custody, trading, and financial reporting infrastructure. This role sits at the intersection of software engineering and accounting, requiring deep expertise in both distributed systems and financial fundamentals.
You will own the design and extension of BitGo's double-entry ledger primitives, including accounts, postings, and account-type/ledger structures that all financial products are built upon. Key responsibilities include designing the chart-of-accounts and reporting surface that connects engineering data to financial statements and downstream reporting; working across on-chain and off-chain boundaries to ensure balance verification, reconciliation, and proof-of-reserve mechanisms; partnering with engineering teams early in the design process to ensure new features correctly model legal entity ownership, ledger placement, pricing, and reconciliation paths before launch; and designing extensible data models that can absorb new financial products (margin, lending, staking, tokenized assets) without painful migrations.
The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of backend software engineering experience with a track record of owning data-model design for systems where correctness is paramount. You must have real, working knowledge of accounting fundamentals: double-entry bookkeeping, chart-of-accounts design, financial statements (P&L, balance sheet), and practical reconciliation and audit requirements. Strong instincts for extensible system design, comfort reviewing and critiquing technical designs across multiple systems, and strong cross-functional communication skills are essential. Nice-to-have qualifications include experience in crypto or blockchain infrastructure, event-driven or Kafka-based service architectures, and prior embedded accounting architecture or financial-systems design-review roles at fintech or crypto companies.
