99Pledges is a fundraising technology platform that powers online donation campaigns for organizations, teams, and individuals through both direct and white-label deployments. The platform processes real money at scale, making correctness, reliability, and security paramount.
In this Senior Software Engineer role, you'll own features end-to-end across a mature, production Rails codebase. Key areas include:
**Core Responsibilities:**
- Build and maintain the core fundraising platform (campaigns, participants, donations, reporting, and metrics)
- Develop payment processing integrations with multiple providers (credit card, PayPal, ACH/EFT), including automatic payouts, payment requests, and reconciliation
- Design and implement multi-tenant white-label systems with branding, feature flags, and configuration
- Contribute to fraud prevention and trust systems (fraud detection, device fingerprinting, abuse mitigation)
- Manage background processing for email delivery, data exports, and scheduled calculations
**Tech Stack:**
Backend: Ruby on Rails 7, Ruby 3.1; Database: PostgreSQL with attention to migrations and performance optimization; Frontend: HAML, SCSS, Bootstrap, jQuery; Background jobs: Delayed Job; Payments: Braintree, PayPal, Dwolla; Infrastructure: Heroku, AWS S3, Redis; Monitoring: Honeybadger, New Relic, Datadog; Analytics: PostHog.
**Requirements:**
- 3+ years building and maintaining production web applications with strong Rails experience
- Solid grasp of relational database design, query performance, and safe migrations
- Experience integrating third-party APIs, ideally payment processors, with understanding of failure modes (retries, idempotency, webhooks, reconciliation)
- Test-first mindset with strong focus on correctness and edge cases
- Comfort working across the full stack, including server-rendered views and front-end interactivity
- Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical tradeoffs
**Nice to Have:**
- Payment/fintech systems experience, PCI knowledge, or money-handling in software
- Multi-tenant or white-label architecture familiarity
- Background job systems and asynchronous processing at scale
- Fraud detection or trust & safety systems exposure
- Feature flagging and A/B experimentation experience
