Lambda is a leader in AI cloud infrastructure serving tens of thousands of customers, from AI researchers to enterprises and hyperscalers. The company's mission is to make compute as ubiquitous as electricity and give everyone access to superintelligence. In this Senior Software Development Engineer role, you will design, build, and operate the software that automates Lambda's network lifecycle, from data center build-out and device provisioning through day-2 operations. You'll work on critical infrastructure including: - Building provisioning and zero-touch deployment systems that take network devices from racked to production-ready with minimal manual intervention - Developing pipelines that generate, validate, and deploy network configuration as code, with automated testing, staged rollouts, and safe rollback mechanisms - Building capacity planning tools that combine inventory, topology, and utilization data to forecast port, bandwidth, optics, and IP address needs as Lambda scales - Keeping intended and live network state in sync by integrating automation with Lambda's source-of-truth, inventory, and IPAM systems - Creating APIs, services, and CLIs that network engineers and internal teams use to request, change, and audit network resources - Instrumenting systems with metrics, logging, and alerting to improve reliability and speed - Partnering with Network Engineering, Data Center Operations, and platform teams to automate manual runbooks - Participating in on-call rotation for automation systems and tooling You will work 4 days per week in the Bellevue office, with Tuesday designated as the work-from-home day. REQUIREMENTS: - 6+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production systems - Production-quality code with deep expertise in multiple programming languages - Experience building automation or infrastructure tooling used by other engineers (provisioning systems, deployment pipelines, workflow engines, internal APIs) - Solid grasp of distributed systems design, including API design, data modeling, idempotency, and handling partial failures - Strong engineering practices: code review, automated testing, CI/CD, and git-based workflows - Comfortable on Linux command line with understanding of core networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, IP routing) - Experience leading technical projects end-to-end from design through production rollout - Mentoring experience with other engineers - Clear communication with software engineers, network engineers, and operations teams NICE TO HAVE: - Experience in networking domain (data center networks, Clos/spine-leaf fabrics, BGP, EVPN/VXLAN, ECMP) - Experience automating network devices from Arista, Juniper, Cisco, or NVIDIA (Cumulus/SONiC) via APIs, NETCONF/gNMI, or Jinja templating - Familiarity with network automation tools (Ansible, Nornir, Netmiko, NAPALM, Terraform) - Experience with network source-of-truth, DCIM, or IPAM systems - Experience building capacity planning or forecasting tools, or working with large time-series telemetry volumes - Familiarity with HPC/AI networking (InfiniBand, RoCEv2 at GPU cluster scale) - Experience running services on Kubernetes - Understanding of data center power, space, and cooling constraints
