Narvar is a multi-language platform intentionally introducing Rust into its backbone systems where correctness, performance, and reliability are critical. This senior engineering role offers significant agency: you'll identify problems, choose tools, and own systems end-to-end rather than working from a narrow ticket queue.
Day-to-day responsibilities include designing and building high-correctness Rust services on critical platform paths, introducing Rust into areas requiring safety and determinism, and owning systems from architecture through implementation, rollout, and operations. You'll make real decisions around concurrency, async boundaries, data integrity, and failure modes while working across service boundaries in a polyglot environment. You'll collaborate with product, design, and frontend teams to ensure technical soundness and product awareness, improve reliability and observability through thoughtful design, and mentor other engineers to raise the bar on system quality and ownership.
Ideal candidates have built and operated distributed systems in production with deep hands-on Rust experience (not just experiments). You should understand where Rust excels and where it doesn't, be comfortable reasoning about concurrency and async systems, and have experience designing APIs and data contracts that evolve safely. Experience with relational and NoSQL databases at scale, AWS or GCP deployment (Narvar uses GCP), and working in startup or high-ownership environments is valued. You take initiative naturally, operate comfortably with ambiguity, and communicate clearly about tradeoffs.
The role requires location in Canada with availability during EST/EDT or PDT/PST hours. Narvar values judgment and ownership over credentials.
