Wealthsimple is Canada's leading financial innovator serving over 4 million Canadians with a full suite of financial products including managed investing, trading, cryptocurrency, tax filing, and spending/saving tools. The company holds over $155 billion in assets under administration. The Build Platform team treats the internal developer experience as a product, with internal engineers as customers. The team's mission is to make developing great software fast, intuitive, and enjoyable by clearing obstacles and enabling developers to focus on building features. In this role, you'll shape the developer journey at Wealthsimple across hundreds of engineers using Ruby, Python, Kotlin, and TypeScript. Your work will directly empower developers to ship high-quality, secure code to millions of users with confidence and speed. Key responsibilities include: - Building the substrate for agentic development by rolling out containerized development environments across hundreds of services, eliminating "works on my machine" issues and providing reproducible, isolated, fast environments for both engineers and coding agents. - Building the verification layer for AI-native development. As agents generate more code, proving changes are safe becomes the constraint on shipping speed. You'll create systems that give agents and developers trustworthy answers in seconds rather than hours. - Making test signal fast, deterministic, and actionable. Flakiness that humans can tolerate is fatal to unattended agent iteration. You'll tackle flake detection, test selection, and failure output legible enough to act on without human interpretation. - Modernizing core libraries and CLI tools that underpin the microservices architecture, automating developer machine setup and replacing legacy tools with safer, auditable alternatives. - Solving hard testing problems including robust backend mocking solutions and enabling isolated testing of asynchronous, event-driven workflows in ephemeral environments. - Defining and measuring operational excellence at scale by building automated scorecards that give teams clear, actionable insight into service health, covering dependency management, monitoring, and scalability. The team's biggest current bet is the AI layer: as agents write a large share of code, verification becomes the bottleneck. You'll sit at the center of building reproducible environments, trustworthy test signal, and tight feedback loops that let agents catch their own mistakes. REQUIREMENTS: - 7+ years of software development experience as part of a team, preferably platform-oriented - 7+ years of hands-on experience with Ruby, Python, TypeScript, or Kotlin - Experience designing, building, and maintaining internal libraries, frameworks, or tooling used by other engineering teams - Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development; you've used coding agents on real production work, understand where they break down, and have opinions about what makes them effective - A builder's instinct for AI tooling; you've built with LLMs rather than only used them, and have thought hard about evaluating correctness - Curiosity and deep interest in fast, reliable, streamlined developer experience; driven to understand users, eliminate complexity, and build elegant solutions - Collaborative spirit and passion for mentorship; belief in making colleagues successful and coaching other developers - Data-informed approach to decision-making; comfortable using metrics to identify opportunities and measure impact
