Wealthsimple, Canada's leading financial innovator serving 4+ million customers with $125B+ in assets under administration, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to embed within its Brokerage Operations team. This role focuses on identifying and eliminating operational friction, regulatory risk, and manual workflows that compound across the brokerage business as it scales.
You will work shoulder-to-shoulder with Brokerage Operations, AML/Compliance Supervision, Trade Desk, Treasury, Account Operations, Margin Supervision, and enablement teams to deeply understand workflows and build solutions. Key responsibilities include automating high-volume manual processes (regulatory reporting, journal entries, reconciliations, collateral monitoring, liquidations, registered-plan administration), advancing risk oversight for leveraged offerings through automated alerts and reconciliations, and partnering with the AI agentic workflows team to ensure solutions are accurate, secure, and auditable.
You will exercise judgment on highest-impact work without a predefined backlog, collaborating with Brokerage leadership and operators to prioritize initiatives. A significant portion of your value will come from pattern recognition and surfacing invisible problems that inform R&D planning.
The ideal candidate is a full-stack engineer comfortable with data pipelines, internal tooling, and AI-augmented workflow automation. You are a genuine collaborator who thrives in ops standups, builds trust with compliance and trading teams, and translates business pain into shippable solutions. You have a bias for shipping, comfort with ambiguity, and a reuse-first mindset that coordinates across embedded teams rather than rebuilding. You proactively identify what needs doing, take ownership, and drive solutions forward with autonomy. Deep curiosity about financial services, regulatory requirements, and the "why" behind business needs is essential. You leverage AI tools to accelerate development and improve code quality, and you communicate clearly with engineering and business leadership about learnings and opportunities.
Bonus experience includes fintech/brokerage operations, regulated financial services, capital markets infrastructure, Oracle/Exadata/EBS, ledger systems, large-scale internal tooling platforms, AI-driven workflow automation in regulated environments, or leading cross-functional workstreams without direct authority.
