Wealthsimple, Canada's leading financial innovator serving 4+ million Canadians with $155B+ in assets under administration, is building an AI Platform Foundations team within Platform Engineering. This is a founding-team opportunity to design and implement shared AI tooling that will be adopted across the entire engineering organization.
In this role, you will:
- Build the shared AI tooling platform from the ground up, consolidating one-off and custom LLM tools into a governed, reusable platform that engineering teams can adopt with confidence.
- Accelerate developer productivity through AI-powered automation, including AI-assisted code review, automated PR approvals, and intelligent deployment checks.
- Design and implement guardrails, policy controls, verification layers, and governance tooling to ensure AI interactions are safe, compliant, and aligned with company standards.
- Drive measurable adoption across a polyglot engineering organization (Ruby on Rails, Python, TypeScript, Java/Kotlin), tracking adoption, satisfaction, and impact rigorously.
- Define standards and practices for AI-assisted engineering at Wealthsimple, establishing patterns for LLM integrations, cost governance, and tooling strategy.
- Champion engineering excellence through mentorship, documentation, code reviews, and cross-team collaboration.
You'll work in a hybrid environment with 1,500+ employees across North America, with the flexibility to work outside Canada for up to 90 days per year. REQUIREMENTS:
- 7+ years of software development experience as part of a team, with meaningful experience in platform engineering, developer experience, or developer tooling.
- Growing track record building AI-powered or LLM-driven systems.
- Hands-on experience building with LLMs and AI tooling (e.g., LLM-powered developer tools, AI API integrations, agents, automation); practical production experience with models like Claude.
- Product mindset for internal platforms: treat developer tooling as a product, understand pain points, measure adoption and impact.
- Technical versatility: experience with two or more of Ruby, Python, TypeScript, or Java/Kotlin.
- Experience building governance, policy, or guardrail systems at scale.
- Data-informed decision-making: comfortable establishing baselines, setting targets, tracking progress.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration and mentorship skills.
