Apptronik is a Series B human-centered robotics company developing AI-powered humanoid robots (Apollo) to support humanity across manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, and beyond. The company operates at the cutting edge of applied AI, tackling complex challenges in safety, commercialization, and mass production.
As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer, you will own and scale Apptronik's DevOps platform end-to-end, from architecture decisions through Linux kernel and network troubleshooting. You will manage Kubernetes clusters on bare metal and public cloud, build CI/CD infrastructure that robotics engineers depend on, and ensure the platform remains resilient and safe as the robot fleet and engineering team grow.
Key responsibilities include:
- Manage and scale Kubernetes platforms across bare metal, VMs, and public cloud (cluster provisioning, networking, storage, upgrades)
- Build CI/CD infrastructure: build runners, remote build execution, caching, container registries, and autoscaling across on-prem and cloud
- Design for failure with backups, multi-site recovery, and recovery drills
- Implement safe change management via GitOps, progressive rollouts, and automatic rollback
- Define SLIs/SLOs and build monitoring and alerting around platform metrics
- Debug production issues across the full stack (Kubernetes, Linux kernel, networking, storage) and fix root causes
- Manage infrastructure as code using Terraform, Helm, Ansible; write tooling in Go or Python
- Build security into the platform: SSO, RBAC, certificate/secret management, minimal patched OS images
- Partner with robotics software teams on architecture and production readiness
- Plan capacity and cost across on-prem and cloud infrastructure
You are a hands-on engineer who builds systems that are reliable by design, keeps digging until you understand why something broke, and prioritizes well while working independently.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 5+ years of relevant experience in Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, or Infrastructure Engineering with focus on hybrid cloud environments
- Deep knowledge of Linux operating system internals, networking stack, file systems, process/resource management, and performance tuning
- Production Kubernetes experience: built clusters, upgraded them, debugged networking/storage/scheduling issues
- Hands-on debugging skills with tools like strace, tcpdump, ss, perf
- Infrastructure as code and GitOps experience with Terraform, Ansible, Helm, Argo CD
- Software development skills in Go or Python (building tools and services, not just scripts)
- Networking knowledge: TCP/IP, DNS, TLS, load balancing, VLANs, BGP
- Observability expertise: knowing what to measure, how to alert, how to set SLOs
- Record of building infrastructure from scratch and running it reliably in production
- Ability to design for failure, debug root causes, and stay clear-headed during outages
Preferred qualifications:
- Hybrid infrastructure experience (on-prem bare metal, virtualization, SAN/NAS, and public cloud)
- Experience building and operating CI/CD and build infrastructure at scale
- Experience with immutable, API-managed operating systems for Kubernetes nodes and eBPF-based networking
- Experience operating container registries with replication and caching across sites
- Disaster recovery planning and recovery drill experience
- Infrastructure experience on both x86_64 and ARM
- Infrastructure experience for robotics, embedded systems, or IoT device fleets
