Cogent Security is building an AI cyber taskforce using generative AI agents to autonomously protect organizations from emerging threats. The company was founded by seasoned engineering and product leaders from top companies like Abnormal Security, Coinbase, Microsoft, Tesla, and Stripe, and recently raised a large Seed round led by Greylock Partners. As Senior Security Engineer for Product Security, you will own the security of Cogent's software and embed security throughout the Software Development Lifecycle. Your responsibilities include threat modeling and secure design reviews to guide engineering teams, owning application security testing (code review, SAST/DAST, triage), and driving issues to remediation. You'll harden the software supply chain through dependency verification and CI/CD pipeline security, build and automate security tooling to scale with engineering, and serve as the internal security SME on product and workflow decisions. You'll partner closely with engineering teams across the organization to ensure security is a default, not an afterthought. As an early security hire at a well-funded startup, you'll have high ownership, direct impact, and the opportunity to shape both security practices and product direction through your feedback as an internal user. Required: 5+ years of product/application security experience with strong hands-on engineering skills across Python, Go, TypeScript, or similar languages. Deep expertise in secure SDLC, threat modeling, code scanning, and supply-chain/dependency security. Fluency with the modern AI landscape and its security implications. Comfortable with ambiguity and high ownership at an early-stage startup. Bonus: Experience securing AI/ML products or agentic systems, background in developer-enablement or security-champions programs, or prior experience as an early security hire building an AppSec function from scratch.
