Braze is seeking a Senior Security Engineer II to serve as a technical leader and senior individual contributor in cloud security. This role goes beyond execution to set technical direction, define standards, and lead cross-functional security initiatives across the organization.
You will own three core areas: (1) Secure architecture and threat modeling—defining cloud security standards and reference architectures for AWS, GCP, and self-managed Kubernetes; (2) Detection engineering and incident response—advancing detection strategy, serving as a senior incident responder for cloud forensics, and optimizing security tooling like CrowdStrike and Tenable; and (3) Kubernetes and platform security—owning the security of self-managed Kubernetes environments, Infrastructure-as-Code standards (Terraform), CI/CD pipeline security, and patch management across containerized and VM-based systems.
Key responsibilities include setting your own roadmap for high-impact cloud security work in partnership with Security Engineering leadership, mentoring and upleveling other security and platform engineers, leading cross-functional initiatives end to end, and representing cloud security in architecture forums. You will drive threat modeling as a repeatable practice, partner with Infrastructure and SRE teams to design secure-by-default architectures, advance detection coverage for cloud threats, serve as a cloud-forensics lead for investigations, and establish best practices for patch management and base-image hardening.
This is a pure individual contributor role where you lead through technical depth, influence, and mentorship rather than direct people management. You'll work with large-scale, distributed systems spanning AWS, GCP, and self-managed data stores such as MongoDB, and help shape how Braze approaches cloud security across the entire Engineering organization.
