BigHat Biosciences is seeking a Senior Scientist II in Biomolecular Characterization to lead the characterization of in vitro antibody-target binding behavior. This is a hands-on individual contributor role with significant cross-functional collaboration across the science, machine learning/data science, and program teams.
Key responsibilities include developing, optimizing, and implementing high- and low-throughput strategies to characterize antibody-antigen interactions using biolayer interferometry (BLI) and surface plasmon resonance (SPR) platforms. You will design and execute epitope binning assays to cluster antibodies into functional families, source and validate competitive binding and blocking assays to triage candidate antibodies, and collaborate with the broader science organization to accelerate candidates from discovery through lead optimization and nomination.
You will synthesize and communicate research results and activities to internal decision-makers, the broader team, and external partners, playing a key role in translating technical findings into strategic insights.
Required qualifications include an M.Sc or Ph.D. in molecular biology, cell biology, immunology, or related field, plus 5+ years of advanced independent research experience in industry with substantial hands-on experience using Octet BLI and/or Biacore platforms. You must have practical and theoretical fluency with BLI sensor types for antibody-antigen binding kinetics and epitope binning, deep technical knowledge of chip chemistries and SPR measurements, and experience measuring binding interactions with recombinant soluble, transmembrane, and cell-based antigens across various antibody formats.
Preferred qualifications include experience managing teams or mentoring junior scientists, strong ability to manage and prioritize cross-functional requests, exceptional data analysis and interpretation skills, and outstanding written, verbal, and visual communication abilities.
