BigHat Biosciences is seeking a Senior Scientist I to lead antibody engineering and therapeutic program development. In this role, you will serve as a program team lead, directing cross-functional project teams spanning Data Science, AI/ML, Engineering, Protein Sciences, and Automation to execute rapid, iterative multi-objective optimization cycles for therapeutic antibody discovery and design.
Key responsibilities include leading the end-to-end antibody engineering workflow—from target biology assessment through design, optimization, and characterization using gold-standard assays. You will contribute deep expertise in antibody engineering approaches including humanization, liability remediation, affinity tuning, and format engineering to generate novel candidates meeting design specifications. You will conduct in-depth data analysis of each design cycle, leveraging both experimental and computational approaches to reach program goals, and communicate results regularly to BigHat leadership, internal teams, and external partners.
Required qualifications: Ph.D. in biochemistry, structural biology, protein engineering, or related field. 5+ years of advanced research experience in industry. Hands-on expertise in protein engineering including structure-guided design, affinity maturation, stability/developability optimization, and rational or computational antibody engineering approaches. Experience with diverse antibody formats (multispecifics, T-cell engagers, fragments, antibody-drug conjugates, etc.). Strong background in mammalian cell culture, immunoassays, molecular techniques, cell-based assays, and protein characterization (kinetics, SEC). Exceptional communication skills with demonstrated ability to present strategy and results to internal and external stakeholders. Strong publication record and data analysis capabilities. Experience with agentic software tools is a plus.
