Salary: USD 128,000 - 171,000 / annual
Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, is seeking a Senior Scientist to join its Rocket Motor Systems business line. This role focuses on the design, development, and manufacturing of next-generation solid rocket motors for defense and space applications.
You will serve as the principal investigator on internal research and development efforts while executing production rocket motor contracts as the program propellant chemist. Key responsibilities include providing technical guidance on explosives chemistry and manufacturing, maintaining databases and analyzing technical data to ensure specification and regulatory compliance, and supporting the implementation of innovative techniques and technologies.
The ideal candidate brings extensive experience with energetic materials and demonstrated expertise in solid composite propellant manufacture and formulation. You will need considerable knowledge of energetic materials chemistry, significant experience in rocket motor manufacturing, and a track record of effectiveness leading R&D initiatives.
Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field plus two years of experience (or equivalent via master's degree plus four years, or bachelor's degree plus six years). You must have a minimum of two years of relevant aerospace/defense industry experience, preferably in solid rocket motor production, and demonstrated expertise in rocket motor manufacture (composite propellants, energetic materials, case/nozzle/insulation design, or manufacturing). Problem-solving skills and the ability to operate in a fast-paced environment are essential. You must be able to obtain and hold a U.S. Secret Security Clearance.
Preferred qualifications include a Ph.D. or M.S. in Chemistry with concentration in energetic materials, polymer chemistry, or reactive materials; three or more years of aerospace/defense industry experience; demonstrated experience formulating propellants at laboratory or production scale; an active DOD Secret or Top-Secret security clearance; and at least one publication or presentation in a relevant defense industry journal or conference.
