Anduril Industries is seeking a Senior Scientific Software Engineer to join a small, high-impact team developing state-of-the-art algorithms and software for mission-critical defense systems. This role combines deep hands-on technical work with technical leadership and mentorship responsibilities.
You will help shape the technical direction of the team while remaining deeply engaged in design, implementation, and code review. Key responsibilities include mentoring junior and mid-level engineers through pair programming and technical guidance, writing production-quality C++ and Python code that powers mission-critical systems, and prototyping state-of-the-art software solutions in an agile environment. You'll guide the team through the path from prototype to deployed tactical implementation, implement high-performance software spanning tactical systems to web applications, and use modeling, simulation, and analysis tools to quantify technology benefits.
You will drive technical interchange meetings, sprint planning, and customer engagements to ensure successful outcomes, own all aspects of the software development lifecycle, and communicate complex technical concepts clearly to colleagues, customers, and non-technical stakeholders.
Required qualifications include 8+ years of software engineering experience and a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent). You must have demonstrated experience mentoring junior engineers and providing technical leadership while contributing as a hands-on individual contributor. Strong proficiency in C/C++ and Python is essential, along with direct experience in air and missile defense domains such as multi-target tracking, sensor fusion, threat classification, kill chain development, or command-and-control systems (IBCS, Patriot, Aegis, or similar). You should have expertise in big data/NoSQL/database technologies, software design and optimization, applied mathematics (differential equations, linear algebra, optimization, statistics), and engineering fundamentals (controls, estimation theory, digital signal processing). Eligibility to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Top Secret SCI security clearance is required.
Preferred qualifications include experience leading small teams or technical workstreams as a top individual contributor, a track record of growing engineers through mentorship and code review culture, experience with asynchronous, parallel, and GPU programming, and prior experience deploying software to real-world tactical/edge environments.
