You will own the integration layer between Causa Prima's platform and the SAP systems (S/4HANA and ECC) that customers use to run their finance operations. Most critical financial data lives inside these SAP systems, and you will be responsible for deciding how the platform safely reads from and writes to those systems at scale across diverse customer landscapes.
This is a senior individual contributor role with genuine architectural ownership. You will set the technical patterns that the rest of the engineering team builds upon and serve as the technical authority when customer SAP teams ask difficult questions about integration, compliance, and data integrity.
Key responsibilities:
- Own the ABAP add-on architecture: structural design, release management, and upgrade safety within a registered namespace.
- Drive clean core compliance and SAP certification by leveraging released CDS views and public APIs.
- Design how financial data moves in and out of SAP using OData, BAPIs, RFCs, and IDocs at production scale.
- Lead FI/CO domain work: translate accounting requirements into code, including posting logic, payment terms, Skonto calculations, open item management, account determination, and tax handling.
- Set engineering standards for testability, ABAP Unit coverage, and static analysis (ATC, SCI).
- Model heterogeneous customer setups (charts of accounts, company codes, country versions, ECC vs. S/4HANA) into a consistent data structure.
- Build for reliability and auditability: implement idempotency, reconciliation, and traceability so every action against a customer system is explainable.
- Lead technical discovery and onboarding with finance teams, SAP administrators, and customer Basis teams.
- Leverage AI tools (ADT services, custom test generation, performance testing) to accelerate development while maintaining code quality.
Causa Prima is building an AI-powered AP/AR network and recovery audit platform, founded by the team behind Taulia. SAP is where money actually moves in enterprise finance, so this role sits at the core of the product. You will have genuine ownership of the SAP side, a short path from idea to production, and a front-row seat as enterprise finance and AI converge.
Requirements:
- Minimum 6 years of hands-on ABAP development on S/4HANA and ECC (production development, not configuration).
- Shipped ABAP code into production systems with experience managing upgrade cycles, transports, and volume challenges.
- Deep Accounts Payable domain knowledge: three-way matching, Skonto postings, blocked invoices, open item clearing, vendor master, payment runs, duplicate detection.
- Strong modern ABAP skills: CDS views, object-oriented ABAP, ABAP Unit, RAP, and instinct for upgrade-safe, namespace-clean code.
- Fluency in third-party system integration with S/4HANA and ECC (OData, RFC, IDoc), including understanding where data models diverge.
- Sound judgment about scope and risk; ability to communicate technical decisions to both engineers and executives.
- Curiosity about enterprise systems and AI intersection.
- Clear communication in English with both engineers and finance stakeholders; Spanish or German is a strong plus.
- Experience using AI tools to enhance development, deployment, testing, and analysis while preventing code quality degradation.
- Familiarity with AbapGIT is a bonus.
Nice to have:
- Accounts Receivable knowledge alongside AP: customer master, incoming payments, cash application, dunning, credit management, DSO drivers.
- Experience taking an add-on through SAP certification (ICC) or working in a registered partner namespace.
- Exposure to SAP Joule with informed perspective on its applications.
- SAP BTP experience (extensions, API layer, GCP-hosted environments).
- Background in AP automation, e-invoicing, or procure-to-pay workflows.
- Experience in fintech, accounting tech, or regulated environments.
