Atoms is building Physical AI—autonomous robots for real-world industries including food production, mining, and transport. The company integrates hardware, software, AI, and operations to deploy intelligent systems at scale in mission-critical environments.
As a Senior Robotics Systems Engineer, you will own end-to-end autonomy feature delivery for autonomous trucks, from prototype to reliable field performance. Your responsibilities include:
• Develop, integrate, and validate autonomy features (software and comprehensive tests) for real-world autonomous vehicle operation
• Lead system-level debugging across sensors, compute, networking, controls, and software stacks using logs, metrics, and on-vehicle diagnostics
• Own technical execution for deployments: develop bring-up plans, communicate technical requirements, identify risks, and coordinate cross-team fixes
• Support field deployments in mission-critical environments with periodic travel to customer sites (up to 10%) and hands-on vehicle debugging
• Bring up and integrate new truck platforms by collaborating with hardware and integration teams on sensor integration, system calibration, and performance tuning
• Collaborate across hardware, operations, safety, and product teams to deliver robust, safe, and maintainable autonomy behavior
• Demonstrate technical leadership during deployments with flexibility for schedule adjustments as needed
You bring 7+ years of professional software development experience with strong programming skills in Python, C++, Java, or C#. You have proven robotics engineering experience with demonstrated system-level ownership (integration, debugging, performance tuning, field support, or deployments). You understand core robotics concepts including state estimation, Kalman filtering, localization, planning, and controls. You excel at designing debuggable software systems with structured logging, metrics, and fault isolation that scale beyond single vehicles. You're comfortable operating in ambiguity, defining scope and success criteria to drive problems to completion. You communicate technical trade-offs effectively to non-technical partners and have led technical projects through planning, execution, and deployment. Field experience with autonomy/robotics systems, sensor fusion, safety systems, camera pipelines, ML perception, vehicle interfaces (CAN), or calibration workflows is valued. Familiarity with Linux, Git, CI/CD, and simulation/test harnesses is expected.
