Standard Bots is building a robotics, vision, and networking platform to democratize real-world automation. The company seeks a Senior Robotics Control Systems Engineer to own control quality across robotic products, operating at the critical boundary between hardware and software. You will be responsible for designing and implementing control systems that deliver smooth, reliable, and precisely characterized motion. Key responsibilities include owning control performance metrics (smooth motion, tracking accuracy, impedance control), designing control-loop benchmarking and validation across communication architectures (CAN, EtherCAT), and analytically modeling in-house actuators (motor, gearbox, feedback systems) with physical verification. You'll implement safety-rated monitoring and stop functions to certification standards, ensure servo performance under dynamic loading conditions, debug complex system-level issues spanning software/firmware/electrical domains, and build diagnostic tooling for tuning and hardware characterization. You'll act as a technical bridge between hardware and software teams, advising leadership on technical strategy and mentoring engineers. The role requires deep classical controls fundamentals (analytical and heuristic tuning, plant/controller modeling, gain/phase margin analysis, bandwidth testing), cross-domain fluency in firmware, electrical, and mechanical systems, and 5+ years of proven experience modeling control systems and tuning loops on real-world benchtop equipment. The tech stack includes STM32 MCUs, C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink, FreeRTOS, CAN/EtherCAT communications, and modern CI/CD tooling. This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of 3 days per week onsite at the Glen Cove, NY headquarters. Nice-to-have skills include modern control techniques (MPC), sensor/encoder experience, sensor fusion, robotic motion planning integration, and board-level electrical diagnostics (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, DMMs).
