Lunar Energy is building clean energy products to electrify homes and create virtual power plants. As a Senior Reliability Engineer focused on power electronics, you will own product reliability across the entire lifecycle of home energy systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineers during hardware design to establish component and system-level reliability targets for power electronics and battery systems
- Provide Design for Reliability (DfR) inputs during new product development
- Drive Design Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (DFMEA) to capture performance risks and implement mitigation strategies
- Develop Accelerated Life Testing (ALT) reliability test plans for components and subsystems using physics-of-failure methodology
- Track field reliability performance metrics (part replacements, customer complaints, fault codes) and identify continuous improvement opportunities
- Collaborate with finance on warranty program insights
- Conduct failure analysis on test and field returns to determine root cause and drive product improvements
Required qualifications:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent
- Proven track record solving complex power electronics reliability failures
- Working knowledge of power converter topologies (inverters, buck-boost converters, etc.)
- Deep understanding of physics of failure and failure mechanisms for PCBAs and power electronics components (MOSFETs, capacitors, inductors)
- Experience with failure analysis techniques (optical microscopy, SEM, CSAM, X-ray, cross-sectioning, EDX)
- Knowledge of accelerated life testing models and governing equations for PCBAs, battery storage, and mechanical structures
- Understanding of reliability statistics
Compensation includes competitive base salary, equity participation, medical/dental/vision insurance, flexible PTO, 401(k), paid parental leave, and EV charging subsidies.
