Salary: USD 185,000 - 225,000 / annual
Trovy is building a financial platform for homeowners to manage their homes and access low-rate credit products backed by home equity. The company operates a lending and card business across a 26-state regulatory footprint.
You will serve as Trovy's primary legal resource and strategic partner, owning the regulatory, compliance, and legal function. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating & Legal Officer, you will be embedded across product, operations, marketing, and leadership teams, balancing fast execution with rigorous legal and regulatory risk management.
Key responsibilities include:
- Serve as primary legal advisor on federal consumer financial law (TILA/Regulation Z, RESPA, ECOA/Regulation B, FCRA, HMDA, HOEPA)
- Advise on state mortgage and lending law across the 26-state licensing footprint, including open-end credit, homestead, and right of rescission requirements
- Own the compliance program, including compliance management system, policies, and regulatory risk framework
- Lead regulatory planning and execution for new product launches, advising on requirements and supporting go-to-market strategy
- Counsel product and engineering teams on regulatory requirements for new features
- Advise on mortgage servicing requirements, customer complaints, escalations, and non-standard servicing situations
- Review HELOC agreements, cardholder agreements, change-in-terms notices, and consumer disclosures for compliance
- Advise on third-party and vendor relationships from a regulatory and compliance perspective
- Advise marketing on advertising, email, SMS, and digital content compliance (UDAAP, TCPA, truth-in-lending)
- Proactively identify legal and compliance issues and collaborate on process improvements
- Track federal and state regulatory developments and advise leadership on implications
- Oversee licensing and regulatory relations
- Support corporate matters including equity transactions, investor relations, and board governance
- Advise on privacy and data security obligations in consumer financial services
- Manage outside counsel relationships and legal spend
Requirements:
- J.D. and active bar admission
- 7+ years of legal experience with meaningful focus on consumer financial regulatory law (mortgage lending, open-end credit, or related consumer credit products)
- Deep knowledge of TILA/Regulation Z (including HELOC-specific rules), RESPA, ECOA, FCRA, and HOEPA
- Hands-on experience with state mortgage or lending licensing and multi-state regulatory compliance
- Experience managing federal or state regulatory examinations or supervisory processes
- Fintech company, neobank, mortgage lender, or financial services startup experience
- Ability to work independently in a fast-moving environment and translate regulatory complexity into clear, actionable guidance
- Strong judgment and intellectual honesty; comfortable giving direct advice under uncertainty
