Taptap Send is a fast-growing cross-border fintech company serving emerging markets, founded in 2019 and backed by top-tier investors including Spark Capital and Canaan. The company operates across 6 of 7 continents, enabling digital financial services for diaspora communities and underserved remittance corridors. You will serve as Compliance Officer and Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) for Taptap Send's Malaysia operations, based in Kuala Lumpur. This is a foundational role establishing compliance infrastructure for the company's entry into the Malaysian market. Key responsibilities include: - Supporting the licensing process with Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), including preparation of application materials, regulatory liaison, and coordination with external counsel - Building local compliance operations and frameworks aligned with group standards - Ensuring full compliance with Malaysian laws, BNM policy documents, and AML/CFT/CPF requirements - Managing regulatory reporting to BNM with timely, accurate submissions and proactive communication of material changes - Developing and maintaining policies and procedures specific to Malaysian operations and licensing requirements - Conducting compliance testing, monitoring, and remediation - Preparing internal compliance reports for senior management and the board - Evaluating and submitting suspicious transaction reports to BNM's Financial Intelligence and Enforcement Department - Overseeing customer due diligence (CDD), know-your-customer (KYC), and enhanced due diligence (EDD) for customers, partners, products, and distribution channels - Managing sanctions screening, targeted financial sanctions, and counter-proliferation financing compliance - Collaborating with group compliance and internal audit teams to strengthen controls and maintain global consistency - Serving as principal point of contact for AML/CFT/CPF matters and maintaining relationships with BNM and relevant authorities The role requires relocation to Kuala Lumpur or current residence there. REQUIREMENTS: - 5+ years of compliance experience in fintech, payments, remittance, or other BNM-regulated financial institutions - Strong knowledge of Malaysia's AML/CFT regulatory framework, including the Malaysian Shariah Banking Act (MSBA), Anti-Money Laundering Act (AMLA), and relevant BNM AML/CFT/CPF and targeted financial sanctions requirements - Experience managing regulatory engagements, ideally including responsibility for or significant involvement in licensing projects - Knowledge of cross-border payments and e-money issuance (strong plus) - Experience with compliance technology tools (transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, KYC platforms, etc.) - Proactive, solution-oriented mindset with ability to build processes from the ground up - Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills - Experience, seniority, and independence necessary to perform Compliance Officer responsibilities effectively - ACAMS, ICA, or equivalent professional qualification (preferred)
