Zapier is seeking a hands-on, technology-savvy Legal Counsel to join its legal team and report to the General Counsel. This is a senior individual contributor role at a fast-growing, profitable, remote-first SaaS automation company.
You will provide practical legal advice on a broad range of commercial and compliance matters, including vendor and sales contracts, data privacy, and employment law. The role offers a unique opportunity to lead efforts to incorporate technology—automation and AI—into legal operations and practice.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead response to legal tickets from teams across Zapier (sales, procurement, HR) and escalate to subject matter experts as needed
- Draft, review, and negotiate inbound SaaS, service, and consultant/contractor agreements
- Collaborate with commercial counsel to support sales deal closures
- Work with employment counsel on personnel-related compliance policies and provide day-to-day support to the People team
- Advocate for and implement technology to improve legal team quality, efficiency, and effectiveness, including automation and AI tools
- Monitor legal developments globally for compliance purposes in jurisdictions where Zapier operates, including labor, data privacy, and AI-related laws
- Advise the business on legal developments with practical solutions that balance compliance with business goals
- Develop systems, processes, and metrics that support Zapier's growth
You will work in a fast-paced, intellectually challenging environment with a 100% remote team where writing is the primary means of communication. The role requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, exceptional drafting and negotiation abilities, and comfort with ambiguity and new challenges.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- Juris Doctor degree
- Admitted to practice and in good standing with one or more US state bars
- 4–8 years of legal experience across commercial, operational, or general corporate matters
- Combined law firm and in-house experience at a SaaS/technology company preferred but not required
- Exceptional drafting and negotiation skills with experience on technology/cloud agreements, SaaS service agreements, contractor/consulting agreements, and other business agreements
- Regulatory expertise with strong business judgment; ability to analyze laws and regulations across multiple jurisdictions
- Experience with and enthusiasm for new legal issues; creative thinking and comfort with change and ambiguity
- Proven ability to use technology (Zapier, CLM products, AI tools) to automate and improve legal processes
- High emotional intelligence, positive attitude, solution-oriented mindset, and strong interpersonal skills
- Excellent time management; proven track record of prioritizing and managing multiple matters simultaneously
- Skilled communicator who can translate legal concepts for a diverse, global workforce
