Lydian is developing sustainable fuels from waste CO2, water, and renewable electricity to decarbonize aviation. The company has built a pilot system capable of producing ~10,000 gallons of fuel per year with 95% lower emissions than traditional jet fuel, backed by top climate investors including Congruent Ventures, Galvanize Climate Solutions, and Union Square Ventures. As Senior Reactor Modeling Engineer, you will lead multi-physics modeling and simulation efforts for Lydian's custom-designed reactors. Your primary responsibilities include developing thermofluid and reaction kinetics models, performing detailed analyses (hand calculations, FEA, CFD) to support reactor component design and optimization, and leveraging models to troubleshoot experimental systems and guide process parameter selection. You will collaborate closely with experimentalists to gather validation data, work across teams as a lead for data handling and advanced analytics, and help implement parametrized reactor models in plant-level simulations. This role requires strong fundamentals in heat transfer, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and chemical reaction kinetics, with the ability to synthesize multi-physics models and reliably assess physical systems. Required qualifications include a BS, MS, or Ph.D. in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering (MS/Ph.D. preferred), 5+ years of experience analyzing thermal fluid, reactor, or catalytic systems, and hands-on CFD software experience (Ansys, COMSOL, OpenFOAM, STAR-CCM+, or equivalent). You should be skilled at experimental data analysis, drawing meaningful conclusions, and presenting findings to broader teams. Experience modeling reactors and chemical kinetics is essential, as is comfort working independently to define and execute projects.
