CHAOS Industries is a defense technology company founded in 2022 and backed by $1 billion in funding from investors including 8VC, Accel, and Valor Equity Partners. The company develops multi-product defense systems powered by Coherent Distributed Networks (CDN™), serving warfighters, commercial air operators, and border protection teams. With 350+ employees across offices in Los Angeles, Washington D.C., San Francisco, San Diego, and London, CHAOS is scaling rapidly in the defense and aerospace sector.
You will join the systems engineering team working across London and Los Angeles, supporting radar deployments across Europe and the Middle East. Your core mission is to own how deployed radar systems perform in the field. You will build deep expertise in real-world radar behavior, turning data from live deployments and field testing into tuning, calibration, and product improvements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owned radar performance for systems in the field, diagnosing RF, detection, and tracking problems on live deployments and converting findings into concrete fixes
- Calibrating, configuring, and tuning radar modes for operational environments, becoming the expert on how products behave in the real world
- Characterizing detection, tracking, and false-alarm performance against truth data to quantify system behavior and identify shortfalls
- Planning and leading test campaigns and data collections, then analyzing results to drive product improvements
- Building tooling, diagnostics, and playbooks that enable Mission team engineers to independently deploy, tune, and troubleshoot in the field, leveraging AI coding tools for faster development
- Contributing to requirements, specifications, and acceptance criteria across the V-model, grounded in field experience
You will be based in the London Soho office and should expect to travel approximately 25% of the time in blocks around deployments and test campaigns across Europe and the Middle East, plus time co-locating with the systems engineering team in Los Angeles.
Requirements:
- Several years of hands-on radar systems experience with deep understanding of radar principles and modes
- Strong signal processing chain knowledge: waveform design, matched filtering, Doppler processing, detection, and clutter rejection
- Hands-on experience calibrating RF systems and measuring their performance
- Ability to analyze radar data and diagnose system behavior
- Fluency in Python
- AI-native approach: comfortable using coding agents and AI tools by default, with considered judgment on what to delegate
- Systems engineering experience with RF systems across both sides of the V-model
- Comfort working in the field on customer sites under operational pressure
- Strong communication skills with people across technical and non-technical disciplines
- Right to work in the UK
- Eligibility for UK security clearance
