Relay is a digital banking platform for self-made business owners, providing financial clarity and control. You'll join the Core Banking team, which builds the resilient infrastructure powering ACH transfers, wire transfers (domestic and international), and payment systems.
In this role, you'll own the quality roadmap for Risk Engineering and build quality engineering frameworks for Core Banking systems. Your primary responsibilities include:
- Building and improving CI infrastructure, including migration to ministack for testing lambdas and microservices locally using Wiremock, Localstack, and PostgreSQL
- Driving shift-left practices across embedded teams, ensuring developers write tests as part of their deliverables
- Identifying and removing bottlenecks in quality operations across Core Banking and Risk teams
- Building developer-focused tools that minimize third-party dependencies
- Mentoring junior quality engineers and contributing to larger Quality Engineering initiatives
- Gathering and presenting defect/quality data to engineering leadership and executives
You'll spend roughly 75% of your time hands-on building quality systems, frameworks, and test suites. The remaining 25% involves ceremonies, mentorship, evangelism, and driving team adoption.
You bring deep experience building quality engineering systems from the ground up—not just writing tests against existing harnesses. You've tested distributed systems (services, lambdas, microservices, real-time applications) in CI environments and understand system architecture deeply. You can influence development teams to adopt quality practices and debug from first principles using code, logs, and traces. You're comfortable gathering quality data from multiple sources and presenting it meaningfully to executives. You're AI-fluent in practice, using AI tools daily and able to critique output critically.
The tech stack includes React, Node.js, AWS infrastructure (Queues, S3, DynamoDB), PostgreSQL, Redis, Playwright, Detox, GitHub Actions, Ministack/Localstack, Wiremock, Bruno, Sentry, Datadog, Cursor, and Claude.
Bonus experience includes mobile testing (Detox) and AWS systems familiarity.
