Upgrade is a fintech company that has helped over 7.5 million customers access more than $42 billion in consumer credit since 2017. The company is valued at $7.3B and backed by prominent technology investors.
The QA-Core team at Upgrade builds test automation infrastructure, tooling, and agentic solutions to increase engineering productivity across the organization. This is a build-focused role, not traditional product QA. You will architect and develop test automation frameworks, design and implement agentic solutions to automate QA workflows, and work closely with product teams to understand their automation requirements.
In this Senior QA Automation Engineer role, you will:
- Design and own automation frameworks for functional and performance testing
- Build agents to automate existing QA/testing workflows and reduce engineering friction
- Develop applications and services that automation depends on, deploy them to production, and operate them
- Take prototypes from concept through hardening, monitoring, and maturity
- Identify gaps in existing frameworks and tools, then iterate toward solutions
You bring 5-7+ years of production software development experience with demonstrated expertise in test infrastructure, test frameworks, and developer tooling. You have a proven track record building agentic solutions and test automation frameworks from scratch, shipping them, iterating based on feedback, and seeing them adopted by other engineers. You are fluent with agentic coding tools (Claude Code, MCP servers) as part of your daily workflow and can orchestrate multiple agents to execute and review agent-generated PRs. You have hands-on experience with microservices, Kubernetes, and managing deployment lifecycles. You can take ambiguous problem statements and independently scope them into defensible solutions.
Core technologies include Java, Python, Kubernetes, Selenium WebDriver, Playwright, TestNG, Maven, Git, Jenkins, ArgoCD, SQL, Grafana, SumoLogic, Docker, and Gatling.
Upgrade offers competitive salary, stock options, medical/dental/vision coverage, flexible PTO, professional development opportunities, paid parental leave, and health & wellness initiatives.
