FlixBus is seeking an experienced Senior Python Engineer to join the Supply Division and own core backend systems powering the network planning optimization product. You will directly impact millions of passengers by building systems that help network planners schedule vehicles, drivers, and timetables while improving profitability.
The team develops and maintains an optimization platform addressing vehicle and driver scheduling, timetable optimization, and related use cases. The architecture follows modern system design principles including Domain-Driven Design, Hexagonal Architecture, and SOLID principles, with strict architectural boundaries enforced by tooling. Backend workloads—APIs, event consumers, and Kubernetes jobs—are built to scale with high code quality standards.
As a Senior Python Engineer, you will own the engineering layer around mathematical optimization algorithms developed by Operations Research Engineers. This includes designing and implementing APIs, managing use cases, building data pipelines, managing infrastructure, and creating domain models that connect optimization output to the broader system.
Key responsibilities:
- Take ownership of backend systems and core platform components
- Collaborate with Operations Research Engineers to integrate optimization algorithms
- Design and implement interfaces and contracts connecting the platform to wider system landscape
- Work with other engineering teams on system integration and architecture
- Maintain high code quality and architectural standards
Tech stack: Python, TypeScript, Shell scripting, Flask, React, Pytest, PostgreSQL, Confluent Kafka, DataDog, AWS tools, Terraform, GitLab, Kubernetes, Docker, and Azure AD.
This is an opportunity to work on a high-impact product at scale, solving complex optimization problems in the mobility space.
