Quantum Systems is seeking a Senior Prototyping Engineer to lead the development and integration of thermal management and cooling systems for the Reliant platform—a next-generation long-range eVTOL unmanned aerial system designed for ISR and logistics missions. This role sits at the intersection of aerospace innovation and thermal engineering, requiring deep expertise in cooling system design for demanding applications. You will own the full lifecycle of thermal system development: designing and optimizing cooling concepts for hybrid propulsion components, power electronics, avionics, and other heat-generating systems. Your work will span aerodynamic cooling solutions (airflow management, ducting, heat exchangers) and both passive and active cooling architectures. You'll define thermal system architectures that balance performance, weight, packaging, reliability, and manufacturability—critical constraints in aerospace. Day-to-day responsibilities include designing and building prototype cooling test rigs with instrumentation, planning and executing thermal and environmental test campaigns, analyzing performance data, and correlating analytical models with physical results. You'll collaborate closely with propulsion, mechanical, structures, and systems engineering teams to optimize thermal integration within the aircraft. You'll also prepare technical documentation, verification reports, and engineering recommendations. Required qualifications: degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Aeronautical, or Automotive Engineering (or related discipline); 5+ years developing and integrating thermal management systems in aerospace, automotive, motorsport, or industrial machinery; hands-on experience with air-cooled systems and aerodynamic cooling; strong grasp of heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and thermal testing; experience with cooling components (heat exchangers, fans, ducting, thermal insulation); and proven ability to design and execute validation test campaigns. Preferred skills include CAD proficiency (CATIA preferred), CFD or thermal simulation tools, thermal instrumentation and data acquisition, and programming in Python or MATLAB. Fluency in English is required; German is a plus. The role demands strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, plus cross-functional collaboration ability. Quantum Systems offers flexible working hours, mobile working options, company pension, bike leasing, corporate benefits, employee events, subsidized lunch, and a company shuttle from Munich (Pasing). The company is an industry pioneer in small unmanned aerial systems, committed to diversity and inclusion.
