Quantum Systems is seeking a Senior Prototyping Engineer to lead the integration and validation of hybrid power and fuel systems for the Reliant platform, a next-generation long-range eVTOL unmanned aerial system designed for ISR and logistics missions. This role sits at the heart of prototype development, bridging mechanical, electrical, propulsion, avionics, and systems engineering teams.
You will own the complete lifecycle of the hybrid propulsion system—from internal combustion engine and fuel storage through generator and electrical interfaces—ensuring reliable, safe, and efficient operation throughout the prototype development cycle.
Day-to-day responsibilities include: leading integration of hybrid propulsion components into prototype aircraft; developing and validating fuel storage, distribution, and delivery systems (tanks, pumps, filters, valves, sensors, plumbing); designing, building, and commissioning test rigs and dedicated test stands; developing and executing functional, endurance, and performance test campaigns; setting up, integrating, commissioning, and troubleshooting combustion engines, generators, and fuel systems; analyzing system performance, efficiency, reliability, and failure modes to drive design improvements; collaborating cross-functionally to optimize system integration and aircraft performance; and preparing technical documentation, verification reports, test procedures, and engineering recommendations.
Required qualifications: degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Aeronautical, Electrical Engineering, or related field; 5+ years of hands-on experience integrating and testing combustion engines, hybrid propulsion systems, gensets, fuel systems, or power generation systems; strong understanding of fuel systems, fluid dynamics, pressure systems, combustion engines, generators, electrical power systems, and hybrid propulsion architectures; experience designing, building, and operating engineering test setups, test stands, and validation rigs; experience with instrumentation, sensors, CAN communication, embedded systems, avionics integration, and data acquisition; fluent English (German a plus). Programming experience in Python, MATLAB, C++, LabVIEW, or similar for test automation and data analysis is advantageous.
