Impulse Space is seeking a Senior Propulsion Test Engineer to lead liquid rocket propulsion test operations at their Mojave Air & Space Port facility. You will be responsible for designing, building, and operating world-class test stands that support the development and production of engines and propulsion components for in-space transportation systems.
Key responsibilities include conducting test operations of liquid rocket propulsion hardware, performing comprehensive test setup, hardware inspections, checkouts, and troubleshooting. You will create, modify, and optimize test sequences and procedures to improve operational efficiency. The role involves designing and building clean-sheet fluid, mechanical, and electrical systems in support of high-rate testing, as well as resolving technical issues with innovative solutions.
You will mentor early-career engineers and work closely with a fast-paced, agile team producing high-performance spacecraft from clean sheet designs. This position offers hands-on technical leadership in a dynamic aerospace environment.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in mechanical, aerospace, electrical engineering, or related field, plus 6+ years of professional experience in hardware development testing. You must have strong engineering fundamentals in thermal, structural, and fluids analysis, with prior hands-on operational experience at aerospace test facilities. Demonstrated experience owning test stand design and build-up is essential. You should be proficient in creating fluid P&IDs, electrical and controls schematics, identifying and procuring test equipment, and working with data acquisition and control methods. Strong project ownership and small-team collaboration skills are required.
