Salary: USD 145,000 - 185,000 / annual
Astranis builds advanced satellites for high orbits, serving large enterprises, sovereign governments, and the US military. The company operates five satellites on orbit with a backlog exceeding $1 billion in commercial contracts. As Senior Propulsion Manufacturing Engineer, you will oversee the complete production lifecycle of the propulsion subsystem for high-orbit satellites, from advanced welded assemblies through component production, subsystem assembly, and vehicle integration.
Key responsibilities include managing propulsion subsystem production with advanced welded assemblies; designing and sourcing all tooling and equipment needed for component manufacturing and subsystem assembly; building and maintaining factory infrastructure to support satellite production capabilities; developing manufacturing processes that meet rigorous internal and external standards; collaborating cross-functionally to deliver subsystems on schedule and at quality targets; and assisting with recruiting and hiring for the rapidly growing team.
You will work in a fast-paced environment requiring hands-on involvement in design and development. The role demands 5+ years of industry experience in propulsion, space vehicles, or high-precision welding, with a Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline. You must be proficient in CAD and have a proven track record of personally designing and building delivered products. Demonstrated ability managing advanced manufacturing products is essential. The position requires 5 days per week on-site at Astranis's 153,000 sq. ft. Northern California headquarters.
Bonus qualifications include direct experience in Manufacturing Engineering, Weld Engineering, or Integration Engineering; robotic, automated, or orbital tube welding; precision welded assemblies or space propulsion systems; machining, welding, or tool & die design; MES or ERP software; GD&T expertise; familiarity with industry standards (AWS D17.1, MIL-STDs, AS/NAS); pressurized systems knowledge; and Reliability and Mission Assurance best practices.
