Voyager Technologies is seeking a Senior Propulsion Engineer to design, build, test, and operate propulsion systems for spacecraft, including lunar landers. This role reports to the Propulsion and Thermal Systems Manager within the Engineering Department in Pittsburgh, PA, and is hybrid with regular on-site presence expected.
Key responsibilities include leading and supporting the design, integration, testing, and operation of new propulsion systems for spacecraft and lunar landers. You will coordinate with program management, systems engineering, and other spacecraft subsystems to assess requirements, design progress, schedule, and risks. The role involves creating conceptual and detailed designs of hypergolic-based propulsion systems, including tanks, valves, instrumentation, engines, and pressurization systems.
You will perform supplier management support, including developing specifications for vendor-supplied components, providing technical review of manufacturing processes, and assuring requirements are met via test and/or analysis. Additional responsibilities include creating integration instructions and providing support during spacecraft assembly in the cleanroom, contributing to technical readiness and safety reviews for testing activities, and writing mission operations procedures with real-time mission operations support.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or similar Engineering with 8 years of spacecraft propulsion experience, or a Master's Degree with 6 years of related experience. You must demonstrate knowledge of propulsion system architecture, best practices, components, and suppliers, and have demonstrated ability to coordinate a technical team of 3 or more engineers on multi-year projects. Experience with component specification, vendor management, and requirements verification for valves, pressure vessels, pumps, thrusters, and instrumentation is essential. Strong technical rigor, decision-making balancing quality/cost/schedule, and effective communication skills are required.
Preferred qualifications include senior-level experience with hypergolic propulsion systems, experience with fluid system design software (Thermal Desktop or Amesim), space/lunar systems experience, familiarity with propulsion system cleanliness standards, hypergolic fluids handling and safety experience, and test facility design/assembly/operation experience. ITAR access is required. Occasional travel with stays up to one week may be needed for on-site support.
