Rocket Lab is seeking a Senior Propulsion Design Engineer to join the Neutron team at its Long Beach headquarters. The Neutron program is developing a new large-lift rocket and its associated launch and test infrastructure. In this role, you will design engine components for the Archimedes engine, including combustion chambers, turbomachinery, and engine layouts. You will own mechanical design solutions for propulsion systems, working from concept through production.
Key responsibilities include collaborating with technical subject matter experts to design engine systems meeting performance, quality, and manufacturability requirements; performing trade studies and design reviews with analysts, manufacturing engineers, and SMEs; and working with internal and external fabrication teams to transition designs into hardware.
You will bring 5+ years of relevant engineering experience with a bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering. Required expertise includes heat transfer, fluids, and structural mechanics; proficiency in finite element analysis (ANSYS Workbench or equivalent); mastery of mechanical design principles; strong understanding of design for manufacturing and GD&T; and demonstrated experience developing parts, assemblies, or systems from concept to production.
Desirable qualifications include high proficiency in GD&T, CFD software (StarCCM+), additively manufactured rocket engine component design, propulsion systems experience, aerospace hardware best practices, and fast-paced development program experience.
