Upside transforms brick-and-mortar commerce by applying online retail sophistication—profit measurement, attribution, and incrementality—to help consumers earn cashback and enable retailers to acquire profitable customers. The company has scaled from fuel into grocery and is now expanding into restaurants, the vertical with the most headroom and least built-out product.
As Senior Product Manager for the Restaurant Vertical, you will operate entrepreneurially within an established company that already has distribution, data infrastructure, and a proven measurement engine. You own the restaurant business: deciding which segments to prioritize, defining the wedge product, and ensuring the economics work for restaurant operators to see measurable profit.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning strategy and roadmap for the restaurant vertical on the merchant side, including segment prioritization, feature requirements, and scaling path
- Adapting Upside's core incrementality and measurement system to restaurant economics (visit cadence, ticket size, margin structure, promotion sensitivity differ from fuel/grocery)
- Partnering with data science on restaurant offer optimization, pressure-testing model assumptions, and translating model behavior into terms restaurant operators understand
- Driving transaction and profit growth for restaurant partners and owning the metrics that prove it
- Building the merchant-facing product experience (measurement, reporting, onboarding, account team tools)
- Partnering with sales and account management to drive adoption and retention; serving as the voice of the restaurant vertical company-wide
- Making build-vs-buy-vs-integrate decisions on POS, payments, and data integrations
- Setting and driving OKRs for the vertical; leading cross-functionally (engineering, data science, design, sales, accounts, marketing) without direct authority
This hybrid role is based in Austin, Chicago, DC, or NYC with required in-office attendance on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday (may increase based on project needs).
REQUIREMENTS:
- 6+ years of product management experience, including B2B or merchant-facing products in retail, restaurant technology, payments, or ecommerce
- Demonstrated 0-to-1 ownership: built a product line or business area from early stage rather than optimizing a mature one
- Strong command of unit economics and measurement (incrementality, attribution, margin math) and ability to defend methodology to skeptical partners
- Hands-on experience working with data science or ML teams on models that drive pricing, offer, or targeting decisions
- Ability to synthesize granular technical and quantitative detail into clear narratives for diverse audiences (ML engineers to independent restaurant owners)
- Exceptional influencing skills; builds deep trust with sales and account teams
- Strong user empathy for small and mid-sized business operators; judgment to know which requests to build and which to decline
- Thrives in ambiguity with metrics-and-experimentation-driven approach to decisions
