Preply is a unicorn edtech company (Series D, $150M) transforming education through human-led, AI-enhanced learning. With 100,000+ tutors teaching 90+ languages to learners in 180 countries, the company is scaling rapidly and planning to grow its engineering team from 200 to 300 engineers this year.
The Platform Tribe owns the internal foundations that enable engineers to build, deploy, and operate Preply reliably and at scale. As the company evolves toward agentic SDLC (AI agents writing and shipping code), the platform function becomes even more critical.
In this Senior Product Manager role, you will own the product strategy for platform capabilities that reduce developer friction, harden reliability, and compress delivery speed. You'll define what "platform as a product" means at agent-scale—not just for human engineers, but for the fleet of AI agents now writing and shipping code.
Key responsibilities include:
- Maintain product charters for platform products (users, problem statements, non-goals, success metrics)
- Define and own vision, roadmap, and OKRs for core platform capabilities
- Identify and prioritize developer pain points using qualitative and quantitative signals, focused on impact
- Translate platform needs into clear product requirements and priorities
- Partner with engineering to evaluate technical trade-offs, focusing on scalable platform capabilities rather than custom solutions
- Drive adoption of platform standards across teams
- Define and track success metrics (developer productivity, reliability, cost efficiency)
- Align platform investments with company growth and scaling goals
- Run discovery through developer interviews, Dev Experience surveys, support interruptions, incident reviews, and platform metrics (DORA, CI/CD reliability)
- Lead migrations and deprecations with empathy, clarity, and consistency
- Work closely with Engineering Managers and Staff+ engineers, spending most time embedded with engineering teams
Requirements:
- Strong product thinking combined with technical literacy in software engineering, developer tooling, or systems
- Experience working with highly technical internal products (platforms, tooling, infrastructure, or developer-facing systems)
- Ability to operate effectively in ambiguity and conflicting priorities
- Proven ability to challenge priorities and drive alignment across internal stakeholders
- Bias for leverage, defaults, and standards, grounded in belief that standardization unlocks creativity
- Solid conceptual understanding of: cloud platforms and infrastructure, modern distributed systems, trade-offs between reliability vs. velocity, abstraction vs. flexibility, standardization vs. team autonomy, SLOs, DORA metrics, and cost efficiency metrics
- Ability to review and challenge technical RFCs and architecture proposals at a conceptual, outcome-oriented level
- Nice-to-have: prior hands-on experience as a software engineer or Engineering Manager before transitioning into Product
