Remote is a global HR and employment platform that enables organizations to recruit, pay, and manage international teams compliantly. This is a Senior Product Manager role focused on APIs and payroll product infrastructure—an individual contributor position that trades management scope for deep technical expertise. You will own your product area end-to-end: the software, customer experience, and the API surface that other teams and external integrators build upon. You'll partner with Engineering Team Leads and Staff Engineers as a peer on architecture and technical direction, forming independent technical opinions and prototyping to validate ideas rather than defaulting to meetings. Key responsibilities include: - Partnering with engineering leadership on architecture, design quality, and technical direction; holding your own in design reviews as a peer - Prototyping and writing code autonomously (using Cursor and/or Claude Code) to de-risk ideas, answer open questions, or ship small features yourself - Owning API and integration quality: designing contracts, guiding versioning and backwards compatibility, and ensuring excellent developer experience for teams integrating with your product - Conducting root-cause problem-solving by observing real workflows with ops and specialist teams, prioritizing based on actual pain points - Owning adoption and hypercare post-launch, ensuring shipped features are actually used months later - Collaborating cross-functionally with payroll and tax experts on research and requirements - Documenting decisions and reasoning in writing (specs, videos, proposals) for transparency and challenge You bring product management experience at a high-growth company, ideally with background in payroll, HR, benefits, or fintech. You have strong judgment on both strategic (what to prioritize) and tactical (feature scope) decisions, demonstrable self-driven results, and a passion for products that work reliably even when solving complicated, unglamorous problems. Proficiency in Cursor and/or Claude Code is required—you must be able to autonomously build, debug, and ship functional code and prototypes. Strong communication and collaboration skills across departments (business operations, sales, etc.) are essential. Business-level English proficiency required; remote work experience is a bonus.
