Vitable Health is building a health benefits platform to make quality healthcare accessible to the 85+ million uninsured and underinsured Americans. You will join as a Senior Product Engineer to lead the design, development, and operation of Vitable's EMR (Electronic Medical Record) platform—the core clinical infrastructure that clinicians and clinical operations staff use daily to deliver care. In this role, you'll own the backend systems powering critical clinical workflows including patient charting, encounters, care plans, diagnoses, medications, labs, referrals, clinical documentation, tasking, follow-ups, and member history. You'll work cross-functionally with clinical product managers, clinicians, compliance, and business stakeholders to understand care delivery workflows, identify bottlenecks, and build systems that improve both clinician efficiency and patient outcomes. Your responsibilities include: designing and maintaining core EMR infrastructure and backend systems; developing systems for encounters, care plans, clinical notes, medications, labs, and other clinician-facing workflows; owning projects end-to-end from discovery through implementation, launch, monitoring, and iteration; partnering deeply with clinical stakeholders to understand workflows and patient safety concerns; building systems that reduce clinical risk and preserve medical record integrity; implementing strong PHI/PII security, access control, and compliance practices; improving clinician and operations efficiency through better tooling and workflows; designing reliable healthcare systems with strong guarantees around correctness, auditability, and data integrity; and contributing across the stack (frontend, internal tooling) when needed to deliver complete outcomes. You'll maintain high engineering standards through clean, maintainable code, thoughtful code reviews, and best practices around testing, reliability, security, documentation, and monitoring. The role requires operating with urgency and ownership while maintaining quality and patient safety standards. Required: 4+ years professional software engineering experience; prior experience building, maintaining, or integrating with EMR/EHR/clinical documentation systems; strong familiarity with healthcare concepts (encounters, clinical notes, care plans, diagnoses, ICD/CPT codes, medications, labs, referrals, allergies, vitals, tasks, patient history); experience building production systems where reliability, correctness, security, and maintainability are critical; proven ability to independently deliver complex projects with measurable impact; strong problem-solving skills and ownership mindset; cross-functional collaboration experience; ability to translate ambiguous clinical needs into technical plans; strong Python proficiency; backend system design expertise; experience designing healthcare data models with attention to data integrity and audit trails.
