Apollo GraphQL is hiring a Senior Product Designer to own high-leverage design problems across their developer tools platform. You'll work end-to-end on well-scoped problem areas—from user discovery and research through shipped, polished experiences—partnering closely with engineers and product managers to shape what gets built. The role focuses on designing for developer workflows and emerging agentic products. You'll own defined features or workflows from conception to launch, bringing a strong point of view on scope and trade-offs. Key responsibilities include: - Owning design for defined workflows in developer tools, from discovery through shipped experience - Partnering day-to-day with engineers and PMs to shape product direction and advocate for scope/trade-off decisions - Scoping v1 designs that deliver value quickly, then iterating based on usage and feedback - Designing for the details that make technical products trustworthy: edge cases, error states, permissions, and system states - Contributing reusable patterns and components to the design system and helping migrate product surfaces onto it - Using AI tools to prototype and test ideas rapidly, and running lightweight usability tests when the cost of being wrong is high - Tying your work to measurable outcomes such as task completion, developer activation, or reduction in support tickets from confusing flows Apollo supports some of the world's largest GraphQL APIs, serving companies like Walmart, Expedia, Peloton, DoorDash, and The New York Times. The company is redefining how software teams build and ship by bringing clarity, speed, and leverage to complex systems. Design priorities are set quarterly and currently include developer onboarding, core product interfaces, the design system, and emerging agentic products. You'll work alongside the Head of Design in an environment that values meaningful ownership, smart teammates, and tackling hard problems that matter. REQUIREMENTS: - 5+ years designing software, with a focus on product or UX design - A portfolio of shipped work - Experience designing complex products, ideally for technical users (developer tools, infrastructure, data, security, identity, or APIs) - A track record of owning features or workflows end-to-end, from discovery through shipping - Strong visual design, interaction, and craft skills - Comfortable working through ambiguity within a defined problem area PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Have shipped developer-focused experiences, API tooling, or agent experiences - Experience contributing to a design system and knowing when to work outside it - Use AI tools to prototype and explore ideas faster - Engineering background or comfort working in code - Curious about developer tools and AI agents - Equally comfortable thinking through a whole user journey and sweating interaction details - San Francisco Bay Area location preferred
