Outset is an AI-powered user research platform used by global brands like HubSpot, Microsoft, Uber, and Nestle to conduct qualitative research at scale. The company recently raised a $30M Series B (December 2025) and is disrupting the $140B+ research industry with AI-moderated interviews.
You will join a small design team as an experienced product designer, owning meaningful product surfaces end-to-end. A significant portion of your work will focus on the Digital Twins / Simulations Lab—a new 0→1 product initiative built alongside the core platform—though responsibilities will expand across the product as needs evolve.
The Simulations Lab is deep tech: it sits atop complex models, data pipelines, and research methods built by the company's scientists. Your core challenge is translating this technical complexity into intuitive, trustworthy product experiences that researchers can grasp quickly. You'll need genuine curiosity about how systems work under the hood, patience to understand them, and the sharp judgment to distill complexity into clarity.
You will work closely with the Head of Design, product managers, sales, and engineering to understand what's being built and how it's being sold. The newer product areas, especially Simulations, are actively shaped by customer feedback and competitive dynamics. The team values high craft standards but moves quickly through iteration without attachment to early work.
Design work at Outset spans traditional tools (Figma, wireframes, high-fidelity visuals) and modern approaches (AI-assisted prototyping with Codex and Claude Design, building prototypes with real data). Technical fluency is a major plus, but strong taste, clear opinions, and a proven track record of shipping are what matter most.
Key responsibilities:
- Own product surfaces from early concept through launch and ongoing iteration, with a central role in Simulations work
- Simplify technical complexity by understanding how simulations and other systems function, then designing experiences that make outputs legible and trustworthy
- Stay close to customers: attend customer conversations, absorb feedback, and translate it into design decisions rapidly
- Maintain high craft standards: produce wireframes, interaction designs, high-fidelity visuals, and sweat details in shipped products
- Exercise judgment about scope: question features that add complexity without proportional value, and help the team focus on what matters most
Requirements:
- 5+ years of product design industry experience, ideally including time as lead or founding designer on a product or major product area
- Experience taking a product from 0 to 1, or working in an early-stage environment where direction changed frequently
- Genuine curiosity about technically complex systems and a track record of designing clear products on top of them
- Comfort working directly with customers and treating their feedback as a primary design input
- Exceptional communication skills
- Strong but loosely held opinions on design and product
Preferred qualifications:
- Comfort designing in code—building prototypes with real data or shipping frontend changes alongside engineers
- Experience building enterprise software
- Experience building in the research industry
